Initial Assessment Session
A personal assessment is performed prior to beginning any exercise program.
This means a confidential health history and medical risk factors profile followed by a postural assessment and a integrated movement analysis (exercises that use the whole body). Although it is not called a workout, you will be performing various exercises that may be quite challenging.
From this information we will design an exercise program specific to the needs of YOUR BODY. You will progress to reaching goals that may currently seem impossible.
Our emphasis is always on following a safe and effective program.
If you have been feeling old with aches and pains or just looking to be fit then CONGRATULATIONS your journey to better health and a BETTER YOU is about to begin!
If you starve yourself to lose weight you will also lose valuable muscle and destroy your metabolism. Starvation diets can change resting metabolic rate by approximately 40% (Exercise Physiol. 5th Edition, McArdle, Katch & Katch) causing you to plateau in your weight loss and even start to increase weight. Exercise with a healthy eating plan will help you lose the weight and keep it off.
Gaining a fit body will help you metabolize carbohydrates for energy when they are needed and will leave you feeling energized. A body that doesn't metabolize carbohydrates well is overweight and sluggish.
You can change your body shape in as little as 10-12 weeks but changing your shape is about changing your lifestyle. Committing yourself to a 2-5 days weekly exercise program and having a healthy eating plan is what determines success for the long term. If you are confused about what foods are healthy or how much is a portion, our registered dietitian will help you make better choices.
Don't kid yourself, it's work, but we are here to help you get there.
Staying functional is important for everybody. You are as young as you feel. Aches, pains and reduced strength and flexibility are generally associated with aging.
The Functional Training and Conditioning Program followed a minimum of 2x weekly will condition the body to be able to move in any direction with ease and efficiency.
Proper posture, core stability, overall strength and flexibility are the focus. You will be amazed at how such focus and attention to doing exercise properly will help you feel younger and more agile. If you want to be fit but not develop big muscles this program is for you!
Having a great post-partum body is about having a great pregnant one. Exercise helps maintain your fitness level and helps minimize maternal weight gain (yours). Keeping your weight to what's recommended will help your body bounce back fast. See Pregnancy section for more information.
Golf, Tennis, Skiing, Ice Skating, Running, Football, Baseball, and Basketball are so different that they each require a sport-specific approach to improving performance. The Equestrian program will help you look better and ride more gracefully.
Our programs are designed with movements to help improve the skills required for each sport. Click here to learn more on each specific sport.
Lower back or upper back bother you?
You can relieve the aches and pains and many times diminish them entirely if you start before structural damage is done.
Correct Posture, Flexibility and Strength exercises are fundamental to your success.
This type of corrective exercise should be performed three times a week and adhered to for a 10-12 week program depending on the severity.
Exercises are designed to help with good bone health, flexibility, balance and coordination.
The program must be followed a minimum of twice weekly. Three times per week is required if diagnosed with osteoporosis.
Our oldest trainee to date is 81 and was shocked when she recently went from 1 minute of cardiovascular conditioning to 30 minutes. YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR HEALTH AT ANY AGE.
What matters most?
A woman in her 70's noticed that her friend who had been training with us for quite some time had better balance than she did.
She had been using various machines at the gymnasium for over 2 years to improve balance and make her stronger.
She was surprised to learn after her initial assessment session that she had not made any gains with her balance or functional strength. (She could not get out of the chair without using her arms to push herself up).
She could not use the elliptical for more than 2 minutes, despite the fact that she could use the treadmill for 30 minutes.
We gave her an exercise plan with functional flexibility and strength in mind. Within 3 months she could use the elliptical for 30 minutes and was able to get up and down from the chair without the use of her arms.
As we age our goals change - we all want to remain living independently for the term of our natural life. We want to be able to play with our grandchildren. We want to be free from fear that with every step we may fall and end up in the hospital.
Businessman
A man in his mid 30's strongly desired to lose the weight that he had gained with all the related business dinners and travel. He wanted a specific program to help him lose the weight, reduce his blood pressure, and help him feel energized again.
By changing his meals and exercising 5 - 6 days a week he was able to lose 20 pounds in 3 months. His blood pressure was down, he was able to control his stress levels and he had more energy to play with his kids on the weekends.
